The Role 

Tesla is looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Firmware System Validation team. This is a hybrid position requiring both System Automation & Validation with a focus in low voltage network management, low voltage battery management, and safety systems. The primary responsibility of this team is to validate all system level software requirements prior to release.  The scope of responsibility includes functional, safety and performance requirements for all vehicle related programs. Tesla is continuously making improvements to its existing product line, as well as launching new products at a break neck pace.  The Firmware System Validation engineer must maintain a close relationship with all members of the design cycle to guarantee they are prepared to rigorously test all new features and changes made in their area of responsibility. 


  • Invent methods and tools to execute tests and evaluate results in an efficient and dependable manner
  • Invent ways to leverage limited test resources for maximum product impact
  • Interact with system architects, hardware and software design engineers, to maintain an expert level understanding in the area of low-voltage power management, LV battery management, Sleep/Wake interactions and power consumption, and safety systems
  • Improve and maintain test setup infrastructure
  • Create detailed and rigorous test specifications based on requirements
  • Execute validation tests and document results in a process conforming manner
  • Communicate validation findings, drive firmware improvements from results
  • Communicate risk to firmware dev, hardware team, and management, accordingly. 
  • Continuously look for ways to improve the safety, performance and customer satisfaction with Tesla products
  • Promote and protect Tesla’s reputation as a cutting-edge company producing the world’s most exciting cars and shifting the paradigm of personal transportation worldwide


  • BS Degree in electrical, computer or mechanical engineering or equivalent required
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging electronics using oscilloscope and other devices
  • Experience following circuit diagrams
  • Experience with test automation
  • Experience with Jenkins & Git a plus
  • Experience with lead acid batteries, charging, and safety a plus
  • Experience with automotive a plus
  • Interest in solving complex and time critical problems….
